PHYSICAL THERAPY SERVICES

WHAT WE DO

Have you been injured or in pain for years or just recently?  I can probably help; even if you’ve tried other forms of treatment.  A number of things set my practice apart from other physical therapy clinics in the Richmond, VA area:  I provide full-hour sessions of one-on-one care with a doctor of physical therapy who is residency trained with a board specialty in orthopedics.  I have had the privilege of working with a number of master clinicians that have formed the eclectic and holistic approach I bring to my patients.

You won’t waste time laying heat packs or doing exercises you could do on your own time. You won’t be passed to a tech or assistant or be treated by someone who is trying to work with multiple people at the same time.  Your care will not be dependent on what an insurance company will pay for or for how long an insurance company is willing to pay for it.  Your care will be based on getting you back to the activities and lifestyle you want without pain medications or surgery.  My success stories include patients with debilitating back pain that radiates down the legs, chronic headaches, sports injuries and rotator cuff pain, to name a few.

Manual Therapy

Manual or Manipulative therapy is a “hands-on approach that uses skilled hand movements to address muscle and soft tissue pain, joint stiffness, and posture.”

That skill comes after lots of training and experience.  Our commitment to this training is what sets the Elite Mission apart from typical physical therapy clinics.

Manual therapy often helps our patients start the process of healing. providing for greater pain free range of motion and allowing you to begin getting back to the life you want as fast as possible.

Therapeutic Exercise

Many chronic injuries start because of deficits in load tolerance.  One of our early goals is to find an entry point back to exercise and then progress this systematically until that exercise looks very similar to your typical sport or daily activities.  Exercise must be specific to your current capacity in strength, mobility, balance and endurance in order to be highly effective.

Manual therapy often allows us to access previously limited or painful range of motion that we can utilize during exercise that can allow for long lasting change.

Modalities

Dry needling, instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization, cupping, percussion mobilization, compression boots, and neuromuscular electrical stimulation all have their place within the context of recovery, optimization and performance.  These are employed on a patient specific basis.  If you are fearful of needles, rest assured, there will be no surprise needle attacks;.  Want more information on the specific benefits of the above treatment modalities, check out my blog.

You see your doctor and dentist at yearly check ups to help prevent and address illness before it arises.  What if joint degeneration, nerve impingement, or strength deficits started showing signs well before requiring surgery or medications.  What if we could delay or prevent the need for surgery or medication altogether.  This is where our yearly or semi annual evaluation can be beneficial.  This is a comprehensive once over.  We look at global functional movements to pick up mobility or stability deficits at 30,000 feet view and then progress to pick out specific impairments to be addressed.  We also take a look at your fitness level as this has been shown to be linked to risk of developing metabolic diseases as well as cancer, and Alzheimer’s disease  We are committed helping you not just live longer but to live longer better.
